I find it reassuring to know that God knows we need to be reminded of things quite often.  I love that he didn’t just tell Abraham one time of his promise to bless him and his descendants, but he reminded him several times.  In chapter 26, God tells Isaac, Abraham’s son, of the promise two different times.  Then in chapter 28, God reveals himself through a dream to Jacob, Isaac’s son, and tells him of the promise. 

He knows how easily we can get distracted and how easily we start to doubt.  He won’t let us forget of His love and plan for us.  There is a great example of this in the New Testament at the last supper before Jesus was crucified.  He gave the bread and wine as symbols of his life being broken and poured out for us, and said to “do this in remembrance of me” (Luke 22:19).  He left us with something to help us so that we will never forget His sacrifice.

I was also challenged today with the verse from chapter 26, “We saw clearly that the Lord was with you.”  Do people see clearly that the Lord is with me?

I was reminded at church recently the importance of living a life of love, and if we do, others will see God’s love through us.  We looked at the great love passage in the Bible in 1 Corinthians 13: “Love is patient, love is kind.  It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”

I keep thinking that I hope my name can be put in there.  I hope my kids can say that “Mom is patient and kind, not easily angered…”  I hope my husband can say, “Emily is not proud or self-seeking; she keeps no record of wrongs…”  I pray that God’s love will shine through me so that others can see Him.
