Genesis
34-36; Psalm 10
*Click here to read these passages:
There
are several psalms that follow somewhat of a pattern such as this one. The psalm begins with questioning God’s presence: “Why O
Lord, do you stand far off? Why do
you hide yourself in times of trouble?”
Then goes on to describe all the evil and trouble that is all
around. Then at the end, there is
a change of tone. The focus
changes from the problem to the answer.
Things are put into perspective: “The Lord is King for ever and
ever.”
The
last two verses of Psalm 10 remind me of a song that I’ve known for a while and
have heard many many times, but this week, for some reason, the words just keep
coming back to me. Psalm 10:17-18,
“You hear, O Lord, the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you
listen to their cry, defending the fatherless and the oppressed, in order that
man, who is of the earth, may terrify no more.”
“The
fatherless will find their rest….
All
the weak find their strength…
Every
fear has no place…
The
enemy has to leave….
At
the sound of Your Great Name”
My
three-year old daughter Evie has struggled with having bad dreams at night and
being fearful of going to sleep. I
started praying with her before bed in Jesus’ name that she would not be afraid
and all darkness would have to leave.
She hasn’t been having bad dreams lately and has been going to bed
without a struggle, but every night she still asks me, “Pray to Jesus I won’t
be scared.” So I do. And the
darkness flees…
