Leviticus
5-7; Psalm 26

As
I was reading the chapters from Leviticus today, the word ‘holy’ kept popping
out for me…holy sacrifices, holy places, what was most holy, etc. The phrase “Be holy as I am holy” came
to mind, and I couldn’t remember where that came from in the Bible, so I looked
it up.
1
Peter 1:15 says, “But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you
do; for it is written: ‘Be holy, because I am holy.’ [*Lev.11:44].”
1
Thessalonians 4:7-8 says, “For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a
holy life. Therefore, he who
rejects this instruction does not reject man but God, who gives you his Holy
Spirit.”
Some
definitions for the word ‘Holy’: dedicated or consecrated to God; set apart;
different from the world – in the likeness of God
The
commentary in my Bible points out about the Israelites and this Old Testament
justice system described in these chapters, that “Only when every member of the
community took personal responsibility could the community remain holy.”
Thinking
today about the local Church…the capital C “Church”….praying that as a
community of believers we will be holy [dedicated to God; set apart from the
world – in the likeness of God] so we can impact our community, our culture,
and our world for His glory and His Kingdom, which is what we’re called to do!
