Genesis 9-11;
Psalm 3

When
I study the Bible I am constantly trying to look for revelations of God’s
character. I know His ways are
higher than my ways as are His thoughts than my thoughts (Isaiah 55:9), so I
will never fully comprehend; however, to walk with God, I need to know Him
better. Here are a few things from
today’s reading:
First
of all, the lists of names… This
happens a lot in the Old Testament, and the individual names don’t really mean
anything to us when we don’t get any story of their lives, just their name,
their son’s name, and maybe how long they lived. To God these are not just names. He knew not only every name, but every heart, and everything
about each one. He created them,
had a purpose for them, and loved them.
Then
there is the Tower of Babel…
God is a jealous God. He
wants us to look to Him alone. He
wants us to rely on Him. He knew
that if things continued the way they were going, “then nothing they plan to do
will be impossible for them.” So
He intervened.
Finally,
David’s Psalm… (If you have time read 2 Samuel 15 to find out what was going on
with David when he wrote this). I
love the verse “But you are a shield around me, O Lord.” I can’t say I’ve ever been where David
was at that time, but I know there have been times in my life where it feels
like everything is pressing in against me, so that I might just collapse. And I know how it feels to have Him be
a shield around me, lifting up my head from the darkness that’s trying to take over.
He knows me. He wants me to rely on Him. He is my shield.
