Genesis 29-33; Psalm 9

Today’s
reading was a little lengthier than usual, but reading all these chapters about
Jacob is like a book you can’t put down.
I’ll try to keep my reflection brief.
A
couple things that stood out for me….
In
chapter 32, when Jacob is about to meet Esau for the first time in years he
prays to God. He says, “I am
afraid….But you have said, ‘I will surely make you prosper…” Using God’s words in prayer is so
powerful and has a way of strengthening your spirit. Admit your doubts, fears, and frustrations; then cling to
His Word and pray it out loud.
Then
in chapter 33 when Jacob finally approaches Esau, it says Esau ran to meet
Jacob and embraced him. Jacob
responds, “To see your face is like seeing the face of God, now that you have
received me favorably.”
Forgiveness reveals the heart of God.
