Genesis 1-4; Psalm 1

“In
the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Ten words that seem pretty simple and straightforward, but
at the same time are packed with depth and meaning for life. If you believe this statement, it affects
how you view everything. I’ve
heard people say that you can’t believe in both God and science, but every
single thing I’ve learned about science points me to God! Consider all the wonders of creation…
from the beautiful design and color of a giraffe (my favorite animal) to all
the different colors, tastes, and designs of fruits and vegetables that provide
us nutrients (how weird and wonderful is a kiwi!). Consider the vastness of the universe to how our single
planet has every single perfect aspect going to sustain our lives. Consider, and this is a big one for me,
how a life is created, grown in a mother’s womb, born, and then provided
nourishment from the mother. I’ve
always thought it was crazy and amazing that a new mother produces milk when she hears her baby cry or even holds her baby close!
All
these things point me to a God who is omnipotent (all powerful), omniscient
(all knowing), and omnipresent (present everywhere at all times; has always
been and will always be). Not only
so, but it also shows me a God who is creative; I didn’t even mention the
beauty and wonder of art and music and the effect they have on our emotions! And finally, it points me to a God who
is loving. With every part of
creation God said, “Let there be…”, and it was. Except for man and woman, who He carefully made from His own
image.
So
in awe of my creator all over again today!
