Genesis 5-8; Psalm 2

From
Adam to Noah…the written account of Adam’s line in Genesis 5 is basically a
long list that says when such and such
had lived so many years, he had a son
named so and so and had other sons
and daughters. Altogether, such and such lived so many years, and then he died. The whole chapter is this same thing until Enoch. For Enoch, we read, “When Enoch
had lived 65 years, he became the father of Methuselah. And after he became the father of
Methuselah, Enoch walked with God 300 years and had other sons and
daughters. Altogether, Enoch lived
365 years. Enoch walked with
God; then he was no more, because God took him away.”
When
we finally come to Noah we see just how wicked mankind had become, and that
“every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the
time.” So much that it says God
was filled with pain, grieved that he had made man, and planned to wipe out all
mankind. But Noah (Ch.6;vs.10) was
a righteous man who walked with God.
This
made me wonder…what did it mean to walk with God? I don’t know a whole lot about Noah, but here are a few
things. I know that Noah listened
to God and he did everything God commanded with what seems a lot of faith and
not a lot of question or doubt. I
also know that Noah offered God a sacrifice after the flood, and God was
pleased so that He vowed to never destroy life on earth again.
A
glimpse of a God of justice and a God of mercy….who wants us to walk with
Him.
