Deuteronomy 23-25; Psalm 49
*Click here to read these passages:
“But man, despite his riches, does not endure; he is like the
beasts that perish.”
“But God will redeem my life from the grave; he will surely take
me to himself.”
“A man who has riches without understanding is like the beasts
that perish.”
Our possessions don’t matter…they will not last
forever. We can’t be attached to
our riches. If I’m attached to my
riches, or my “stuff;” if I care too much about material things, it can keep me
from following where the Lord might lead.
It can keep me from giving to those in need.
In Deuteronomy, as well as throughout the Bible, it is so apparent
that God truly cares for the poor and weak. Just as the people were instructed not to go over their
crops twice when harvesting, but leave what was left the first time to those in
need – we are not to cling to or hoard the blessings we have. We have to be willing to let go of what
we have to serve God and serve others.
Everything we have is from God anyway; it is not our own.
All these thoughts today are much easier written down than lived
out.
Working on it….
