Leviticus
15-17; Psalm 29
*Click here to read these passages:
“The
voice of the Lord….
…is
powerful.
…is
majestic.
…breaks
the cedars.
…strikes
with flashes of lightning.
…shakes
the desert.”
I
read this Psalm today when just yesterday I read this passage from 1 Kings 19
that was used in the book I’m reading right now:
“The
Lord said [to Elijah], ‘Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the
Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.’
Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered
the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake,
but the Lord was not in the earthquake.
After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle
whisper.” Then Elijah went out and
listened to the voice of the Lord telling him where to go and what to do
next.
The
almighty, all-powerful God, who spoke the universe into existence, sometimes
chooses to speak in a gentle whisper.
He wants us to be listening for Him. He wants us to be still and quiet so we can focus our attention
completely on hearing Him.
Sometimes
I forget to just be still and quiet and take a moment to let His presence come
and surround me with His love and His voice. But when I do this, it seems to never take long before I’m in
His presence hearing His voice.
Praise
God for His voice of power and majesty!
Praise God for His gentle whisper!
