Numbers
16-19; Psalm 37
*Click here to read these passages:
Psalm
37 contains several verses that I’ve always liked, but reading it today in
light of what I just read in Numbers, puts it in a new perspective. First, there are things God wanted the
Israelites (and us) to do:
“Commit
your way to the Lord; trust in Him…”
“Be
still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him…”
“Refrain
from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret…”
“Turn
from evil and do good…”
“Wait
for the Lord and keep His way…”
Then
there is also talk of how the wicked are punished just as God punished those in
the desert:
“The
power of the wicked will be broken…”
“The
wicked will perish…they will vanish - vanish like smoke.”
“But
all sinners will be destroyed; the future of the wicked will be cut off.”
There
are so many promises for choosing to follow the Lord… inherit the land, enjoy
great peace, enjoy plenty, will not fall, be protected forever…
That
is what God desired for the Israelites and what He desires for us still today –
good things – if we’ll just turn to Him, trust, and follow His way.
“Delight
yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.” What is really cool - the more I delight in the Lord and
draw near to Him and His word, the more the desires of my heart become the
desires of His.
