Leviticus
18-20; Psalm 30

When
I was reading these chapters in Leviticus I noticed that throughout the lists
of laws God would keep saying every once in a while, “I am the Lord your
God.”
This
might sound funny, but it reminded me of something I’ve done with my own
kids. Particularly with my 5 year
old son, who sometimes likes to think he can make up his own rules, I’ve said
to him, “I’m the Mommy.” Just
reminding him that I’m the one who makes the rules, who knows best, and who
wants what is best for him.
God
kept reminding them that He was in charge, He wanted what was best for them,
and even if they didn’t realize it, the laws were there for their good. There is a simple phrase in a worship
song I like by Misty Edwards called “Finally I Surrender,” and it is this: “You
are God. I am man. You are sovereign.” So simple….yet so important to
remember.
