Numbers
starts off with a census. And by
the way, any time there is a long list of names and numbers in the Bible, I
totally think it is okay to skim through a little bit as long as you’re
considering its significance.
Here
the Israelites have finished the work for the tabernacle and God is organizing
them for the journey to Canaan, the promised land. This is a very large number of people, an entire nation, and
God is once again giving very specific and detailed instructions on what they
need to do. Each tribe has a
specific placement, and the Tent of Meeting, or the tabernacle, is at the very
center.
God’s
desire was to be with His people and for them to put Him in the center of
everything.
