Confession
– I’m pretty sure that more than once I’ve tried to read all the way through
the Bible and have gotten suck in Leviticus. In Genesis you have creation, Noah, Abraham, Issac, Jacob, Joseph;
In Exodus you have Moses, miracles from God, and the freeing of the
Israelites. Reading about
regulations about skin diseases and mildew for example in Leviticus can be a
little tough to get through.
With
that said however, I do think it is cool that the regulations in Leviticus
served medical purposes. Another
reminder that God the creator knows all.
One example is the newborn circumcision and the fact that medically the
eighth day after a baby boy is born is the ideal time for circumcision. Up to the fifth day there is risk of
the baby hemorrhaging, and after the eighth day, nervous system development make it more painful.
Also the treatment described for infectious skin diseases including
isolation and washing of anything touched by a person with a disease prevented
epidemics. Once again we see He not
only knows all but also wants what is best for us!
So
if you are following along with me, I want to encourage you to stick with it! Also, continue to worship through the
Psalms. “The Lord is my strength
and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give
thanks to him in song.”
