1 Chronicles 21-23; Psalm 102
*Click here to read these passages:
When things are going really well and amazing things are
happening, it never seems to fail that at some point, Satan rears his ugly head
to try to mess things up. He never
likes it when people have their eyes on God and are completely devoted to Him,
especially when that faithfulness in Him is impacting the world around you. God had been blessing Israel through David’s
leadership. They were uniting and
growing stronger day by day.
Chapter 21 verse 1 says “Satan rose up against Israel and incited
David to take a census of Israel.”
A census in itself was not necessarily bad, but in this case it
was. David was supposed to be
completely reliant on God for everything…for guidance, for provision, for
victories, for strength. David was
a humble man and a humble king, which I believe is a big reason God used him in
such great ways. But here he falls
into the temptation of becoming prideful.
This census was for David to kind of bask in the glory of Israel’s
numbers and their strength and power.
Anytime we start thinking about good things we’ve done, it takes
our eyes off of God and how it is actually all about what He’s done.
Thankful for the reminder to keep my eyes on Him today and everyday.
