1 Chronicles 14-16

I love the presence and importance of music in these
chapters! The musicians were
listed by name and instrument.
They preceded the Ark of the Covenant and then were placed around it to
play music regularly. Music is
important to God! It also says
that the musicians were skillful, and I think that is important to God as
well. Not everyone is skillful at
it, and some people are especially so.
Those who are should take care to work at that special gift so to be
used for God’s glory. Chapter 15
verse 22 says, “Kenaniah the head Levite was in charge of the singing; that was
his responsibility because he was skillful at it.”
Music has always been a huge part of my life, and I’ve always been
fascinated by the way music can affect a human being. Just the other day I heard the choir I help out with and play
the piano for singing a piece that I had sung 13 years ago. When I heard them singing, the music
took me to another time and place, and suddenly I was the one on stage singing in the
choir with my eyes locked on my conductor. I could remember every expression of his face and movement
of his hands as he molded our voices into beautiful music. It was the most vivid memory that
brought back with it even more memories and emotions.
And there are so many more examples than this! I can’t even count the number of times
music has brought tears to my eyes or goosebumps up and down my arms! Music can relax and calm. It can help ease physical pain. It can push a runner to keep going even
when the body wants to stop. It
can open the mind of someone with Alzheimer’s. Music can usher you into the presence of God and open your
heart to His voice.
The very idea of music was created by God. He put this amazing mysterious
emotional, physical, and spiritual connection with music inside of us. And the more I think about it, I
believe God created music because words would never be enough to express our
worship to Him. There needed to be
a whole other beautiful language connected with our soul so that we could come
close to bringing Him the glory He deserves. And in worshiping Him through music, He comes near in such a
powerful and wonderful way.
…Going to go get lost in some music and wait for Him to come…
