1 Chronicles 1-6; Psalm 99
*Click here to read these passages:
The book of 1 Chronicles starts off with an extensive genealogy,
which as I’ve mentioned on the blog before, I believe it is okay to skim through
these, focusing instead on why it is included. It is important to know that 1 and 2 Chronicles were written
to the audience of a small group of Israelites who returned after being exiled
into Babylon for 70 years.
These books are kind of a history lesson for this small group of
Jews who are left, which means it will revisit some of what we’ve read in 1 and
2 Samuel and 1 and 2 Kings. The
genealogy at the beginning helped show them their place as God’s chosen
people. They will also be shown
how it was because of the people’s unfaithfulness to God that caused them to
lose their land. Along with that
they will see how God was faithful when the people were faithful to Him.
A new beginning … another chance … a lesson to come back to the
one true God and to look to the coming of Jesus – the “Son of David,” the “Lion
of Judah,” the “King of kings.”
