Isaiah 28-29
*Click here to read this passage:
“Do and do, do and do, rule on rule, rule
on rule” – I feel like this is how many people view the Bible and
Christianity. Do this; don’t do
that. And unfortunately, the grace
offered by Jesus is many times not really in the picture. Religion becomes more of a checklist
than a relationship with God.
“These people come near to me with their
mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is made up only of
rules taught by men.” (29:13)
This was a problem in Isaiah’s time, it
was a problem 700 years later when Jesus was here on earth, and it is still a
problem today 2,000 years later.
We see over and over throughout the Bible of how God cares about the
heart – more than anything. He
wants us to seek a relationship with Him, not just follow a bunch of
rules. He wants us to trust Him
and allow Him to mold us to be like him.
No matter how many things I do on my
“checklist” or “do’s and don’t list” I need the grace of a Savior. I can’t be both the clay and the potter
and try to control everything on my own.
He is the potter; I am the clay.
Thanks for the reminder of relationship over rules!
