Jeremiah 5-6; Psalm 119:89-96
*Click here to read these passages:
“If your law had not been my delight, I
would have perished in my affliction.
I will never forget your precepts, for by them you have preserved my
life.” (Psalm 119:92-93)
The people in Jeremiah’s time did not
think like this. They did not
delight in God’s law. Even though
God warned them over and over they did not listen and were in denial that they
were going to perish in their afflictions.
In Jeremiah 6:14-15 God says, “My people
are broken - shattered! - And they put on Band-Aids saying, ‘It’s not so
bad. You’ll be just fine.’ But things are not ‘just fine’! Do you suppose they are embarrassed by
this outrage? No, they have no
shame. They don’t even know how to
blush.”
Sin, which is basically not doing things
God’s way, will eventually, even if not at first, lead to your own destruction
… if not on the outside, then on the inside. God doesn’t want this to happen. He warns us, He gives us His Word to help guide us away
from sin, and He sent His Son to rescue us from it.
“This is what the Lord says: ‘Stand at the crossroads and look; ask
for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will
find rest for your souls.”
Doing things God’s way does not bind, but
instead frees us from the destructive impact of sin and brings us near to the God
of peace.
