Isaiah 24-27

I thought this note from the commentary in The Discovery Bible was a perfect description and summary of today’s
chapters:
“Old Testament scholars agree that these
chapters are a unit, a four-part summary of God’s purpose through history. They announce coming judgment (chapter
24) and the triumph of Yahweh (chapter 25), followed by the hope of
resurrection (26:1-19), the destruction of the oppressors and the restoration
of the oppressed (26:20-27:13).
However dark things may appear, these chapters remind us that God has a
plan and he is in control.”
“O Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you
and praise your name, for in perfect faithfulness you have done marvelous
things, things planned long ago.” (25:1)
Perfect faithfulness … everything He does
is in perfect faithfulness. I love
what Isaiah says about God silencing the things around us that are beating us
down. “Like a storm driving
against a wall and like the heat of the desert.” He silences it all “as heat is reduced by the shadow of a
cloud.”
I think everyone has times when they feel
like they’re in a storm that’s driving hard against them or in exhausting heat
that is pressing down on them. God
alone is the shelter from the storm.
God alone is the cooling cloud of rest, relief, and restoration. He does such marvelous things, things
planned long ago. It is crazy to
think about the marvelous things He has planned that are still to come.
