Week 9 - Day 6

Deuteronomy 32-34

*Click here to read this passage:

“They are not just idle words for you – they are your life.”

God told Moses to teach the Israelites a song to sing.  The song lifts up God in praise, it reminds of all the things God has done, it tells of His great love and care, and it warns what will happen when God’s people reject Him.  “If only they were wise and would understand this and discern what their end will be!”  God knows how they will fail, but still desires for them to choose Him and in turn choose life.

Several times in the song God is called the Rock.  He is their foundation on whom everything in their lives should be built and through whom nothing can be shaken.  If God is not the Rock they stand on, everything falls apart.

After the song Moses, knowing His time is up, speaks blessings over all the tribes of Israel.  It hit me as I was reading this, just how much Moses loved the people.  There were of course the times they drove him crazy to the point he wanted God to just let him die, but there were also many times he pleaded to the Lord on behalf of these people.  He had been their leader for a lifetime, and I believe he loved them as God did.  Moses, “whom the Lord knew face to face,” was connected to the heart of God and saw the people through God’s eyes.  He so desperately wants them to choose to follow the Lord and His ways.

This was the challenge for me today…to love others as God does…for my heart to be connected with God’s…to so desperately want God to be the Rock for others.
