Joshua 5-7; Psalm 53
*Click here to read these passages:
So God had told Joshua over and over to be strong and courageous,
and God promised to be with him.
Now we see the courage and faith of Joshua coming into play. God had prepared him and now it was
time for action.
God sends a message to Joshua for the plans for Jericho. It had to have sounded like a crazy
plan to Joshua, but he listened to God anyway and faithfully obeyed. Everything happened as God said it
would, and the walls of the city collapsed.
Not long after this amazing thing God had done with Joshua as the
great and strong leader, does Joshua lose his courage. He begins to complain saying they
shouldn’t have even crossed the Jordan.
He is afraid saying, “The Canaanites and the other people of the country
will hear about this and they will surround us and wipe out our name from the
earth.”
This reminds me so much of myself….I can experience something
amazing from God and feel strong and bold and faithful. But so quickly I can forget that and
start feeling completely discouraged and defeated. I wonder if Joshua kept whispering those words he heard from
God to himself to help him keep going:
Be strong and courageous.
Be strong and courageous. I will be with you. I will be with you wherever you go. Be strong and courageous. I will never leave you or forsake
you. Be strong and
courageous.
