Joshua 8-10; Psalm 54
*Click here to read these passages:
“Joshua said to the Lord in the presence of Israel: ‘O sun, stand
still over Gibeon, O moon, over the Valley of Aijalon.’ So the sun stood still, and the moon
stopped.” “The sun stopped in the
middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day…. a day when the Lord
listened to a man.”
There were many tasks that God gave Moses and Joshua in which He
gave very specific details about what they were to do and how to do it. He gave Joshua specific instructions
about marching around the city of Jericho, blowing trumpets, and shouting, and
then the walls fell. I find it
interesting in this story about Joshua that God didn’t specifically tell him to
ask for the sun to stand still.
God had told him, “I have given them into your hand. Not one of them will be able to
withstand you.”
Joshua had faith that God was going to do what He said. Joshua knew God was able to do immeasurably
more than we could ever ask or imagine. [Ephesians 3:20] Joshua had the audacity to ask….
“If you have the audacity to ask, God has the ability to respond” –

If you have never read Steven Furtick’s book Sun Stand Still,
I highly recommend it! Furtick
says “I despaired at the thought that my life might slip by without seeing God
show Himself mightily on our behalf.”
