Esther 1-4
*Click here to read this passage:
I love how the book of Esther shows how God works behind the
scenes. Things that might seem
like coincidences are God’s hands weaving things together for His plan.
“And who knows but that you have come to royal position for such a
time as this?” (4:14) Esther was
the right person in the right place at the right time to save God’s people.
There are many takeaways from these chapters, but what is really
getting to me today is thinking about how easy it would have been for Esther to
have not done anything. She knew
that anyone who approached the king without being summoned would be subject to
death unless he decided to spare them. But she says, “I will go to the king, even though it is
against the law. And if I perish,
I perish.”
She could have easily responded, “I have no choice. The law is the law and there is nothing
that can be done.” She could have
thought, “I can’t do anything to make a difference. I’m just a powerless servant to the king who hasn’t even
called on me in thirty days.” She
could have continued to hide her family background in hopes to avoid being
killed herself and continued to live in the luxury of the palace.
But she didn’t. She
recognized God’s hand in placing her where she was and God’s purpose for
her. She asked all the Jews to
pray and fast for her in preparation for what she knew she had to do. She stepped out with boldness even in
the face of possibly losing her own life.
Instead of sitting idly by she acted.
Praying for all believers and myself…. For eyes to be opened to
how God is working behind the scenes and for boldness to act and be used by
Him.
