Week 14 - Day 3

2 Samuel 4-7; Psalm 77

There’s a lot to think about after today’s reading!

~ First of all, David is becoming the kind of king Israel needs.  He is unifying them.  He is a humble leader who seeks God’s will instead of honor and glory for himself.

~ The Ark Brought to Jerusalem – the holy symbol of God’s presence is taking its rightful place in the center of the Israelites once again.  God reminds the Israelites of His presence, His power, and His holiness when he strikes Uzzah for irreverently touching the ark.

~ “I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes.” (2 Samuel 6:22).  It says that when the ark was being brought up David, wearing a linen ephod instead of royal robes, danced before the Lord with all his might.  He was setting an example for worship.  It doesn’t matter what our status is, what we look like, or what people think of us.  He is worthy of all our praise!

~ The Davidic Covenant (2 Samuel 7) – Here God promises to establish the kingdom of David’s son, and that he (Solomon) will build God’s temple, and that David’s throne will be established forever.  Meaning one day a descendant of David would rule an everlasting kingdom – Jesus!

~ Finally, Psalm 77 – I love this psalm because it starts off with thoughts of despair, asking if God has left and forgotten to be merciful.  But after that it says, “Then I thought, ‘to this I will appeal.”  The writer decides to change his way of thinking and instead of focusing on what is going wrong, he thinks about all the good God has done.  “I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.  I will meditate on all your works and consider all your mighty deeds.”  His perspective changes…and the psalm ends in praise.
