2 Samuel 1-3; Psalm 76

“…to save all the afflicted of the land.” (Psalm 76:9)
Some people have a gift from God to create beautiful pictures with
words. John Mark McMillan is one
of those songwriters who do this so well.
One of the worship bands at my church just did a song that he wrote
called, “Oh How He Loves Us,” and one part kept sticking out to me….
“When all of a sudden, I am unaware of
these afflictions eclipsed by glory,
And I realize just how beautiful You are
And how great Your affections are for me.”
Afflictions eclipsed by glory. What a picture those 4 words paint!
Afflictions (physical, mental, or spiritual grief and pain) eclipsed
(completely obscured from sight) by glory (the fullness of God – His light, His
power, His goodness, His presence).
He came to save the afflicted. When we look to Him, everything else disappears, so we are
left to “think about the way He loves us.
Oh! How He loves us!”
