**As we are finishing up the book of Jeremiah this week, it will only be a 5-day week for the reading plan. If you could share a reflection or something God has been teaching you lately, I would love to post some as our Day 6 this week! Just email me at ejmushlock@gmail.com **
Jeremiah 40-43; Psalm 119:153-160
*Click here to read these passages:
“Salvation is far from the wicked, for they do not
seek out your decrees.” (Psalm 119:155 NIV)
“I took one look at the quitters and was filled with
loathing; they walked away from your promises so casually!” (Psalm 119:158 The Message)
What Jeremiah had been warning for so long had come
true – Judah was taken by Babylon.
There was a small remnant left behind however, the poorest of the poor
that the Babylonians did not take.
They became fearful for their lives and asked Jeremiah to ask God what
they should do.
They said, “Whether it is favorable or unfavorable, we
will obey the Lord our God, to whom we are sending you, so that it will go well
with us, for we will obey the Lord our God.” (42:6)
Seemingly, a great and faithful commitment … but
easier said than done. These were
apparently just empty words because as soon as Jeremiah told them what God
wanted them to do, they did not obey and did the opposite of what God wanted.
It is easy to say – ‘Okay God, I’ll follow you and do
whatever you want me to do’ - but then if what He wants us to do doesn’t match
up with what we want to do, we bail.
When you bail on God’s way you bail on His promises.
God had told them that if they would just do what He
said He would build them up and not tear them down, He would be with them and
restore them. But they bailed on
their commitment and walked away from His promises.
