Acts 21-23; Proverbs 31:10-31

Throughout the book of Proverbs I’ve been both inspired and
challenged as a mom and a wife, but there’s nothing quite like Proverbs 31 –
The Wife of Noble Character. It is
a great example to look to, and for me today, it made me do an attitude check.
Here is what I mean … I feel like I do all the mom/wife jobs I’m
supposed to do. There are even
days when I feel like I do them pretty well. But sometimes I get into this huff and puff, eye rolling,
whining, pity-party attitude about it all. Proverbs 31 gives me an attitude check. It reminds me that being a wife of
noble character is hard work. It
just is. She’s up before dawn
taking care of her family and getting ready for the day, she does the shopping,
she does the sewing, she makes and manages money, she helps the poor, and on
and on. When I read about this
Proverbs 31 woman, I do not get the sense that she is doing any of these jobs
with a bad attitude or a feeling of being overwhelmed by the many things she's got on her
plate. Instead, there is a picture
of joy and confidence, of strength and dignity.
These are some of the verses that particularly inspired me today
(coming from The Message translation):
“Never spiteful, she treats her husband generously all her life
long”
“First thing in the morning, she dresses for work, rolls up her
sleeves, eager to get started.”
“She senses the worth of her work, is in no hurry to call it quits
for the day.”
“When she speaks she has something worthwhile to say, and she
always says it kindly.”
“She always faces tomorrow with a smile.”
